The A Cumberlidge team has recently completed a flooring project specifically designed to meet the needs of a thriving regional business centre.
The Digital Media Centre on County Way in Barnsley is a creative workspace facility for acorn businesses to grow and flourish. A well-known local architectural feature, the building incorporates flexible work space for businesses of all sizes as well as meeting rooms and event space.
Explains Tim Vaughan, director at A Cumberlidge: “Dan Goulding from NPS Barnsley approached us on behalf of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council with a view to replacing the existing laminate wood timber floor that had been in situ for the last decade and was beginning to show signs of wear and tear.

“Our task was to supply and install a new hardwood flooring that would offer at least another 15 years of service and more.”
Continues Tim: “Taking into account the building’s water-fed underfloor heating system, we had to ensure that any new floor covering could accommodate the subfloor changes in temperature and any differential movement. As such, a hard wearing, 14mm two strip parquet timber floor from Junckers was specified.”
It was imperative that the Digital Media Centre remained open during the four-week period of operations and the A Cumberlidge team more than delivered in this respect. The first stage of the process was to remove the existing timber floor and prepare the subfloor in readiness for the new material.
Once the subfloor was prepared, 416m2 of the parquet timber floor was laid and a 50m2area of Burmatex ‘Armour’ entrance matting tiles were added to remove moisture and debris from regular footfall to further enhance the lifetime of the main floor.

Commenting on the project, Vicki Jackson, operations manager at the Digital Media Centre, said: “From start to finish, the Cumberlidge team delivered an excellent service with good communications throughout. They were also very flexible to our requirements and fully respected our working patterns by halting work on a couple of occasions to accommodate presentations that were taking place in the building. We’re very happy with the overall result!”
Concludes Tim: “I am thrilled with the finished result; the overall effect is stunning – it’s another floor for our team to be proud of.”
